They told me to stop | They told me to quit | They said I'll be gone
They told me to stop They told me to quit They said I'll be gone They said it's a risk In the midst of all this They said I was wrong It's a dangerous field And I'm sitting in it Writing these songs But my people are dying And you expect me To pick up the gun? Well you're wrong I'm writing these rhymes Regardless of the threats I'll sing through my frights Speak with my heart and write with my mind Mama told me to take claim what is mine Look at them frown Hatin' on me for speaking out loud You stay quiet and waste all your time Always treated me like an animal I ended up a hound Bitch always standing in my way Son whores won't let me go Threatening to send me to jail You don't know the pain my songs have caused But I'm still in this Still in this Nevertheless I'm doing this Should I get drunk off my weed Or high with my liquor Isn't it the opposite? I don't know bitch go figure Show me some hope in these times I know it's the truth they despise No heaven on earth in this life Death isn't hell for my kind We grew with stars in the sky The same sky where bombs would fly Seen all kinds of war Seen enough of kinds of fights and Showing us peace in disguise Came to our lands with one thing on their minds Use and divide Sent a culture to hell with their western said lies No matter the pain and No matter the laws that apply The home of the bravest Has never been brave to my kind Land of the poets Land of the brightest of minds That's what they said Well tell me what are we now? From Hafez and Rumi To Khayam and Saadi From Cyrus the Great 'Till the name that they gave me What good are we now If all good is in BC? What good are we now If all good is in BC? But in the end Every light needs a dark Every pain has its place For every peace needs its war So out beyond this pain and this anger Far from the causes The consequences and the matter Out beyond the right and the wrong There is a land within us Where we all belong They told me to stop They told me to quit They said I'll be gone They said it's a risk In the midst of all this They said I was wrong It's a dangerous field And I'm sitting in it Writing these songs But my people are dying And you expect me To pick up the gun?
